This Christmas may be the last one that a free Internet exists within the EU, to the detriment of many people in the creative professions. When I first went into blogging and publishing fanfiction online over five years ago, I thought this day would never come. There would be a requiem and a ban on parodies, on sharing images and stories that move us for free, on filk lyrics and fanfiction, and pirate translations of works outside the public domain... The Members of Parliament turn a deaf ear to all of us in the creative and the electronic world, and thus, next year... if we all don't come together and do something against this Article 13, everything we know and love will fall apart.
Now I know how Odin must have felt with the forebodings of Ragnarök. But who am I to be then... Odin or Enjolras? Feeling powerless against the rising tide, or not? Not only is my career as a currently unemployed translator at stake; many other creative professionals will be facing the same dire consequences - if we don't do something ourselves.
Most surely, this year's Advent Calendar will be about Save Our Internet and have to do with the history of copyright and resistance to it - maybe this very introductory article will be barred because the name of Enjolras (or any other Les Mis character) would be as encouragingly mentioned as Macbeth, if we just sit there idly instead of coming together for the cause.



Cambios de Privacy Policy para Google y YouTube (incluyendo Noruega, Islandia y Suiza, pero no el RU)

Seguro que si has entrado a Google has visto un mensaje indicando “Nuestras Condiciones y Política de Privacidad cambian el 22 de enero. Los servicios en el Espacio Económico Europeo, Noruega y Suiza los prestará ahora Google Ireland Ltd”. Ese mensaje ha desatado la curiosidad de los usuarios, por lo que vamos a arrojar algo más de luz sobre el tema de que Google cambie sus condiciones y política de privacidad para ver cómo nos afecta como usuarios.

“El 22 de enero de 2019, nuestra Política de Privacidad y nuestras Condiciones de Servicio cambiarán para los usuarios de la Unión Europea, Islandia, Liechtenstein, Noruega y Suiza (¡pero NO el RU!). Para obtener una vista previa, consulta las versiones actualizadas de la Política de Privacidad y de las Condiciones de Servicio”. Es decir, que España está entre los países afectados por este cambio.

Además, pronto tendremos también un cambio de este tipo en las Condiciones de Servicio de Drive, de Play, de YouTube y del servicio de pago de YouTube.

¿Cambiará algo para el usuario? En el día a día el usuario no debe notar ningún cambio. Desde Google explican que:

“Tu experiencia en los servicios de Google no cambiará. Además, tampoco habrá cambios en tu configuración de privacidad, en el tratamiento de tus datos ni en las finalidades de dicho tratamiento, tal como se describe en la Política de Privacidad de Google. Sin embargo, si no quieres aceptar los cambios en nuestras condiciones y en nuestra Política de Privacidad, puedes dejar de usar los servicios correspondientes.
