EHUD & ABIGAIL
After handing to David the provisions she brought, Abigail returns home, where she finds Nabal drunk in the midst of his sheepshearing feast. She decides to wait until morning to tell him about her mission to David. When Nabal hears what she has done, he suffers what is probably either a stroke or a heart attack. The text, terse and dispassionate, says that "his heart died within him, and he became as a stone. And about ten days later the LORD smote Nabal; and he died."
What exactly did Abigail tell her husband and what did she omit? Which aspect of her encounter with David caused Nabal's heart to turn into stone? The Bible relies on the reader to fill in the gaps with their own imagination and experience.
