La serie dei Numeri (Ar Rannoù, vespers of the frogs)

 LA SERIE DEI NUMERI

(AR RANNOÚ, VESPRE DELLE RANE)

E tu bel bimbo, bimbo mio dolce,
quand′erano in trecento a partire...
Unica è la morte,
niente altro, niente più...
E sul cammino che il tempo fa
cinque finora sono le età,
e sono dodici i mesi che
giorno per giorno, da sempre
segnando va.
E dodici ancora sono i segni
che tu puoi leggere nel cielo,
guerra tra di loro han dichiarato,
questa che ti canto sarà la fine.
Unica è la morte,
niente altro, niente più...
Allora la tromba suonerà,
avremo fuoco e tuono, pioggia e vento,
la serie dei numeri è finita,
per l'uno sai che non c′è serie:
Unica è la morte,
e due i buoi,
e tre la parti,
quattro le pietre,
cinque le età
e sei le erbe,
sette sono i soli,
sette le lune,
otto sono i fuochi
e nove le fanciulle,
ma dieci i vascelli,
undici i guerrieri,
dodici i segni,
dodici i mesi
e unica la morte,
da sempre madre del dolore.

ART HISTORY ADVENT CALENDAR - DAY 14

 Week of Power

14th of December - Thor

Always in battle against the powers of darkness:
trolls, jötnar, werewolves, iron witches...
My billy goats, Gnasher and Grinder,
carry my sleigh or chariot at breakneck speed.
And my hammer Mjölnir, gift of Loki,
after striking the enemy dead,
always returns to my right hand
like a boomerang.
Yet there is a worthy opponent for me:
the Midgard Serpent,
that encompasses Earth's all oceans.
I have already fought the Serpent twice:
first I tried to lift it as a tabby cat,
then it got my fish hook in its throat.
The third time will be at Ragnarök,
the end of times.
Then my Mjölnir will sure crack its skull.
But not without the Serpent's fangs piercing my chest,
filling my bloodstream with lethal venom.
I guess, since both of us die,
you can call it a draw.
I am not afraid of my destiny.
My wife Siv has had three lovely, strong children:
Modi, Trude, and Magni,
all three the heirs to the hammer Mjölnir
and to the war on darkness on the new Earth.

#SaveOurInternet 1: INTRODUCTION

This Christmas may be the last one that a free Internet exists within the EU, to the detriment of many people in the creative professions. When I first went into blogging and publishing fanfiction online over five years ago, I thought this day would never come. There would be a requiem and a ban on parodies, on sharing images and stories that move us for free, on filk lyrics and fanfiction, and pirate translations of works outside the public domain... The Members of Parliament turn a deaf ear to all of us in the creative and the electronic world, and thus, next year... if we all don't come together and do something against this Article 13, everything we know and love will fall apart.
Now I know how Odin must have felt with the forebodings of Ragnarök. But who am I to be then... Odin or Enjolras? Feeling powerless against the rising tide, or not? Not only is my career as a currently unemployed translator at stake; many other creative professionals will be facing the same dire consequences - if we don't do something ourselves.
Most surely, this year's online Advent Calendar will be about Save Our Internet and have to do with the history of copyright and resistance to it - maybe this very introductory article will be barred because the name of Enjolras (or any other Les Mis character) would be as encouragingly mentioned as Macbeth, if we just sit there idly instead of coming together for the cause.
