CANTRIPS & CONTRAPTIONS XII - THE THÉNARDIERS

Mme. Thénardier is an ogress grump; Sgt. Thénardier is a spriggan grump. They run first the Sergeant's inn, then the Patron-Minette carnival along with sevartal wylder duke Montparnasse of House Varich (Enjolras's foster brother from their time in nobility), ogre wylder Gueulemer and some others. Patron-Minette is a chaotic neutral organization, though some may view it as chaotic evil.

The Thénardier children - Éponine, Azelma, and Gavroche - are thallain kinain, born of thallain parents. 'Zelma in particular takes after her mum, being the tallest and most muscular in spite of being the middle sibling. Gavroche being a childling spriggan takes other streetrats under his wing and soon joins the Amis in spite of being of thallain descent; all three have pointy ears as faerie marks. While his sisters have learned to cast cantrips from their parents and Montparnasse, Gavroche has learned from them in turn...

Kinain are not affected by Cold Iron in the same way that changelings are. They do not find its touch painful or discomforting. If attacked with a cold iron weapon, they still lose Glamour in the same way that changelings do, which makes them cautious about such weapons, but they can handle and even wield items of cold iron with no ill-effect to themselves. This can give them a substantial advantage in combating changelings, and is one of the things that make kinain faerie-hunters so dangerous. A kinain with cold iron weapons can be a powerful and dangerous ally, and just as powerful and dangerous a foe. Take Éponine Thénardier, who like her little brother joins the Amis at the Musain and at the barricade...

In the end, instead of crossing the pond and becoming slavers in Dixie (ie southern Concordia), the Thénardiers in this AU stay in the Royal Domain of Neustria and run their carnival moonlighting for their sinister deeds among other fey - with their sole surviving child Azelma as Montparnasse's lovely assistant and life partner
