My third What's This filk, this one about filking itself (which makes it a metafilk):
What's this?
It's filk!
It's parodying songs!
Is filk
illegal, right, or wrong?
Tell me!
At least it's safe to write filk in these days, so
just check out my "Growing Strong!"
All right!
This filk
was great!
For I love House Tyrell!
The Reach!
And who could ever tell
at all
that "Be Prepared" could be performed by them
right before the Purple Wedding,
with all new lyrics for the fitting!
What a filk!
There's more!
With musical intelligence, and linguistic one too,
and passion for the song and 'verse, many filks you can do...
This is my third "What's This" one, for I just love the tune,
and, after this one, I hope I can do many more soon...
Oh look?
What's this?
On Thirty Years of War!
No filk
on this was done before!
And there's
a What's This recap of Shakespeare's Othello!
It was truly worth gold ore!
Gold ore!
You did
"the List"
and put it in a play!
So much
filk is there I can't say!
And why?
For the passion that you feel must be intense,
otherwise it would make no sense...
A Shakespeare Cell Block Tango! Great!
So now correct me if I'm wrong:
This looks like fun! This looks like fun!
Oh, could there be a stop to filks?
Hope not!
Oh look!
What now?
This is your latest song!
And hear:
it's not a second wrong!
Good Lord!
A metafilk on the act of filk composing,
such imposing, lovely parodies of songs inspired by other
'verses...
Can't breathe!
The reference to other filks, that signature of yours...
And dialogue with a reader or listener, of course!
In my head, I can hear this to the right tune in the air!
When will your next filk come to make us forget all our cares?
The tune! The feels!
They're everywhere and all
around!
I've never felt so good
before!
This empty place inside of me is filling up...
I simply cannot get enough...
I want it, oh, I want it,
oh, I want it for my own!
I wanna know, I wanna know who is the author I have found!
Such great filks!

WHAT'S THIS? 30YW VERSION
Since I did the Othello filk of What's This, I felt that I must do more filks.
More filks mean more of my 10000 times to greatness.
So here is the 30YW version of What's This, which I had thought of writing down as soon as the Othello one was penned. This filk takes place three years ago, when my interest in the 30YW was sparked:
What's this?
What's this?
Like some religious war?
What's this?
I've heard of this before!
What's this?
I can't believe my eyes, I must be dreaming...
Watch out, Sandra, there'll be gore!
What's this?
What's this?
What's this?
The Kaiser's got an urge...
What urge?
The realm of Prots to purge!
Oh no!
To reassert the primacy
of Austria and the Habsburgs,
he will slay every non-Catholic!
What is this?
What's this?
There's wealthy upstart Wallenstein, and veteran Count Tilly,
both fighting for command, they do not share much bonhomie...
Now Albrecht just got laid off... Oh, I can't believe my eyes!
And plans worthy of Tywin Lannister he'll now devise...
Oh look! Who's this?
The dashing King of Swedes!
A kiss?
He'll bring his queen to war!
To fight!
Finally, we've seen the heroes of this story,
Gustavus and Eleanor!
What's this?
Right now,
now lands the Swedish fleet!
Good cheer!
I hope there's change and things...
And why?
Now Gustavus parleys with the electors for a while...
Magdeburg is overrun,
then they claim Leipzig, Saxony...
Tilly loses at Breitenfeld!
This looks like fun, this looks like fun!
I was right to bet on the Swedes!
What's this?
Oh my!
What now?
It's winter, wait till spring!
It's spring!
They've got to cross the Lech!
They cross!
Now Count Tilly's despairing,
says his prayers, his flag he's bearing,
Oh, how daring! Yet his right leg's been shot off and now he's
dying...
What's this?
Now Wallenstein is back, Gustavus fights his first defeat...
I don't know if the Swedes will ever this freethinker beat!
Amidst the fog of Lützen, I hear gunshots in the air!
They cross the fields at twilight, and the fallen King lies there!
The sights! The sounds!
They're everywhere and all
around!
I've never felt so good
before!
This empty place inside of me is filling up...
I simply cannot get enough...
I want it! Oh, I want it!
Oh, I want it for my own!
I've got to know, I've got to know what is this war that I have found!
What... is... this?

WHAT'S THIS? GAME OF THRONES VERSION
This one covers seasons 1 through 3, so sorry, no Purple Wedding or Red Viper Fight...
So I've added another stanza, not featured in the video, which covers the fourth season...
What's this?
What's this?
A Song of Ice and Fire!
What's this?
A show called Game of Thrones!
Who's this?
A man, he's called Ned Stark,
And Winter's coming,
Look out, Ned!, this isn't fair!
What's this?
What's this? Who's this?
A tiny little pimp!
Who's this?
Oh this must be the Imp!
What's this?
Queen Cersei and her brother
are caught banging,
Bran is pushed, his back gets broken,
And this act won't go unspoken!
What is this?
What's this?
There's a woman named Daenerys
with dragon eggs of old...
Her husband named Khal Drogo
bestowed Viserys a crown of gold!
Ned's now on the chopping block...
Oh look there goes his head!
And in my bones I feel a chill
That's filling me with dread...
Oh, look!
What's this?
Now on to Season Two!
Look there!
The dragons have now hatched,
in fire!
The Night's Watch has arrived beyond the wall
and now this setting's growing dire!
What's this?
What's this?
In here?
They've got a little prick,
as king!?
And who would ever think
And why?
The red woman birthed a horrid shadow thing
that killed a man who would be king,
Winterfell's been overrun,
the Siege of Blackwater has gone wrong...
This cannot be!
This cannot be!
They're all roasting with the fish!
What's this?
Oh my, what now?
We're on to Season Three!
And look,
they dismembered Jaime!
But what?
Poor Theon's being tortured, flayed, no compassion, only little thoughts and dreams to save his famous...
penis...
What's this?
Daenerys stole an army,
And the Wildlings climb the wall!
Meanwhile, over at the Twins,
A wedding in Frey's hall!
The Rains of Castamere starts echoing throughout the air!
Now everyone is being killed,
a sight I just can't bare!
And now,
this spring,
it's time for Season Four!
And Joff's
just married Miss Tyrell!
Strychnine!
The blame falls on the cupbearer,
the Imp's in truly dire straits...
Go Oberyn, go fight Clegane,
we bet on you, on Dorne!
Come on!
Go for't...
He won't go for the kill...
Oh no!
The Dornishman is crushed!
Good Gods!
Now the Imp has shot his father, who was sitting in the privy,
then left Westeros for Essos, right where Dany's locked up
dragons...
What's this?
Now Sansa's in the Eyrie, her aunt's shoved down the Moon Door,
Brienne's got Jaime's sword, and she sets off like once before,
There's battle on the Wall, Ygritte is wounded in the chest...
She dies in Jon Snow's arms, and may she ever more be blessed!
The blood, the screams!
They're everywhere and all,
around,
I've never felt so odd
before!
This empty place inside of me is filling up!
I simply cannot get enough!
I want it, oh, I want it!
Oh, I want it for my own!
I've got to know...
I've got to know...

WHAT'S THIS - OTHELLO FILK
Since I loved the Westeros filk of this song, I decided to do the Othello version. Because I love this tragedy and no Othello version of What's This had been made before, that's why!
Et voilà!:
This filk takes place when I was a teenager and read Othello for the first time (as the short tale by Charles Lamb). Spoilers for those who don't know the plot!:
WHAT'S THIS - OTHELLO FILK
What's this?
What's this?
A play told by the Bard!
What's this?
Should I bet on this card?
What's this?
I can't believe my eyes, it's William Shakespeare...
Wake up, Sandra, you'll be scarred!
What's this?
What's this?
What's this?
An outpost on a shore!
Who's this?
A general, a Moor!
What's this?
He's married a blond girl called Desdemona,
that is Cassio, young lieutenant...
No more war, so hoist that pennant!
What is this?
What's this?
There's this fellow called Iago, who's come up with a plan...
He wants to be lieutenant, and discredit the young man...
While Cassio is on duty, he gets too much drink inside...
and now he fights with others... No... I can't believe my eyes!
Oh look! What's this?
Young Cassio fell from grace!
Despair?
No, he will seek redress!
Let's go!
He parleys now with Lady Desdemona...
Hope this does not end in woe!
What's this?
What's this?
How queer!
She lost a handkerchief?
And now?
Iago takes it pleased!
And why?
Now he's always trying to convince the Moor
that Cassio's with his wife for sure,
the young chap's got the handkerchief,
and now the Moor just had a fit,
for he believes, but Iago's wrong!
This cannot be! This cannot be!
Both Des and Cassio will get killed!
What's this?
Oh my! What now?
The lady's fast asleep!
The Moor?
He wakes her with a kiss!
No! Lord!
No mercy, no more hope, no second chances,
Cassio's dead, the Moor's hands close around her
trachea...
What's this?
Emilia, the maidservant, told the truth (she's Iago's wife),
and young Lieutenant Cassio, turned out, never lost his life!
The general bursts into tears, heartbroken, in despair!
He stabs himself, kisses his love, dies stroking her fair hair...
The sights! The sounds!
They're everywhere and all
around!
I've never felt so good
before!
This empty place inside of me is filling up...
