MURDER ON TUDOR CLOSE (Les Mis Hogwarts AU, you know)

Ever since Jumanji premiered in 1995, most 90s animated series (mostly Western animation) had a whole-plot reference episode where the characters get trapped in the world of a board game (Trapped in TV Land, board game subtrope/The Game Come to Life/Win to Exit: some examples: "Kibbleland" in All Dogs Go to Heaven, "The 30th Square of Cursed Senet" in Papyrus, heck, there was a whole Jumanji animated series where Judy and Peter entered the game once per episode!).

In El semen de los ahorcados, StrixAlluka capitalised on the Game Come to Life trope by having the leading cast get trapped in the world of a bland-named Cluedo, Murder on Tudor Close (the characters and premise were more or less the same). Like the School Play episode (Othello, a gaiden set before the events of the saga), it was (partly) an excuse to put the cast in period costume - but it also served to explore cast dynamics, and the final twist (like in Murder on the Orient Express and "MMMystery on the Friendship Express, everyone is guilty!- Everybody Did It trope), which is even lampshaded, was remarkably well executed. This was not a gaiden or an omake, it took place in the main plot.

It happened in Book 2 (fifth grade) during the Christmas holidays. Montparnasse found the Murder on Tudor Close game (wizarding or Muggle? Never explained, it's left ambiguous) at the Three Broomsticks and challenged Enjolras, Combeferre, Courfeyrac, Grantaire, Éponine, and Cosette to play with him. Everyone of these seven was teleported to Tudor Close (a Tudor mansion located, gardens and all, on an asteroid in outer space, making this an extreme example of the Closed Circle trope). They were surprised on finding themselves in this setting and in period costume, and were greeted by Montparnasse as Lord Black, their host (Mr. Boddy in the real Cluedo) who gave them a tour of the estate and had supper with them until he was found dead in the observatory with signs of having been killed with things that all six of the guests/suspects could have used...

  • Enjolras as Miss Scarlett (Srta. Escarlata) in drag (was shocked to find himself in a sexy dress!) - weaponised stiletto heels
  • Combeferre as Professor Blackberry (Prof. Zarzamora) - ancient tablet in cuneiform (Sumerian)
  • Courfeyrac as Colonel Mustang (Col. Rubio) - katana
  • Grantaire as Signor Verdi (Sr. Verdi) - Venus de Milo's arms
  • Cosette as Lady Celeste - jewelled hairpin
  • Éponine as Mrs. White (Sra. Blanca) the cleaning lady - envelope of rat poison (containing strychnine)
They would only escape if they said "It was X (person) with Y (weapon) in the observatory --or wherever on Tudor Close they had attacked Lord Black," but they all suffered from amnesia right after the supper (Lord Black/Montparnasse Obliviated them) - the Everybody Did It twist was mounted gradually, as all of them had flashbacks until the truth was revealed - and they found themselves in their usual Hogwarts uniforms at the Three Broomsticks, Parnasse still alive... was it all a dream? But there were clues that it all had actually happened...

LES MIS DnD AU (Vox Machina Style)

THIS AU IS ONLY VOX MACHINA OR MIGHTY NEIN STYLE - THINK OF IT AS A DND UNIVERSE IN GENERAL

I think of this story as kind of Journey to the West or Wizard of Oz - a group of companions with different personalities (a balanced party) going on a quest (likewise, leaving their homeland in the East to find some sacred texts in the West). Also a lot of inspiration from the Holy Grail mythos (especially, but not only, the Monty Python versions!). This is actually a fanfic epic written by Courf in the Hogwarts AU El semen de los ahorcados!

At first only the Main Five are on that quest, being chosen by the gods to find the Sacred Texts, then I'll add Marius, Éponine, and other secondary characters who don't join the party (Ranger Éponine and her little brother Gavroche are guest star party members). Their main characterizations are from El semen de los ahorcados (Hogwarts AU) and from Eleven Moons Duology (Aritsar AU), but in a DnD universe.

Same pairings as always: Enjoltaire, Courferre, Éposette, etc. Like in these other AUs, characters from other universes like Count Jean de Satigny, Eugénie Danglars and Louise d'Armilly, Éloïse de Villefort, even Josuke, Koichi, and Okuyasu... and many others will show up.

THE CORE FIVE

Enjolras / Paragon Enjolras: human paladin, only child from a very conservative and religious family. Aroace... or is he? Takes up the role of Tripitaka, being the pure-hearted leader who is given the quest in a vision by the gods

Combeferre / Jules-François Combeferre: halfling artificer, quite the Renaissance person (alchemist, gunsmith, electrician, robot maker, you name it). Takes up the role of Sha Wujing (Sandy, the merman), being the most level-headed, though he can give in under pressure. One of the four chosen guardians.

Courfeyrac / Sejanus Cassio de Courfeyrac: catboy (nekomata) rogue/ninja, from a noble family but now a Goliard on the fringes of the law (personality-wise, somewhat like Naruto mixed with Josuke), Combeferre's matesprit. Like Nepeta Leijon, speaks in kitty puns (says for instance "mew" instead of "you"). Takes up the role of Sun Wukong (Monkey King), being the trickster who questions authority and tricks everyone, on a redemption quest - used to be the King of Thieves, but lost his throne on a bet against Montparnasse, and is now a mercenary. One of the four chosen guardians.

Grantaire / René "Grand R": half-elf half-human Cobalt Soul monk/drunken master (lots of inspiration from both Okuyasu and Rock Lee), also a Goliard, Enj's matesprit (though at first Enj won't realize it). Expelled from his order for breaking his vow of chastity. Takes up the role of Zhu Wuneng (Pigsy), being the most self-indulgent member of the party. Another mercenary. One of the four chosen guardians.

Jehanne Prouvaire: elf bard, only child, trans girl, modest offstage but flamboyant on stage, more of a Celtic bard vibe. Takes up the role of Yulong (Dragon Horse) more or less, being the most modest yet the most powerful member, whose magic is only used as a last resort. Also for being gender fluid (Yulong turns more than once into a human woman to seduce/distract opponents). The last of the four chosen guardians.

MINOR CHARACTERS.

Éponine Thénardier: half-drow ranger, dragon rider, guest star party member - in unrequited love with Cosette ('tis a pity she's straight...)

Gavroche Thénardier: youngest of the Thénardiers and team pet (somehow), fully human... or so it seems. Is also a hybrid, though it doesn't manifest until puberty

Azelma Thénardier: the middle child, aspiring rogue, fully human. Becomes Montparnasse's right-hand woman and partner, the Queen of Thieves

Bahorel: berserker, human

Henriette: berserker, dwarf, Bahorel's partner

Jo-Lee: human alchemist/healer, hypochondriac

Lesgles "Bossuet": human (black) necromancer

Musichetta: half-elf bard, more of a classical musician vibe than Jehanne Prouvaire (with Lesgles and Jo-Lee, these three form a trio of mercenaries)

Marius Pontmercy: half-elf scholar (translator) and gunslinger, raised by his human aristocratic maternal family, rediscovering his elven heritage. The kouhai/maknae of most characters.

Cosette: half-elf cleric, raised in a convent. Very conscious of breaking her religious vows. In love with Marius (and vice versa: they even become fiancés)

Jean Valjean: human druid, Cosette's stepfather/guardian, gardener

Étienne Javert: half-drow paladin, Valjean's partner, Cosette's other stepdad

Montparnasse / Caractacus Montparnasse: blue-skinned tiefling (half-oni) rogue, "King of Thieves," Éponine's ex and Enj's kismesis

THE ENJ-TEAM / EL EQUIPO ENJ (Gaiden)

tal vez pueda contratarles...

OTHELLO AND IAGO: OR ONCE UPON A NEWT

OTHELLO AND IAGO: OR ONCE UPON A NEWT

Well, Othello done as a school play is as original an idea as "for once, leading characters don't get to act in the play" in The Ember Island Players (though the Dornish arc makes, just for fanservice, shipping, and a little excitement, no use of the latter). Think of that: Othello done as a school play. In Fictionland, as the School Play article on TV Tropes proclaims, the most common dramas to be staged, both written by the Bard of Avon, are Romeo & Juliet for teenagers and MSND for primary school children. Othello is considered too controversial (steamy, and allegedly racist) to be performed by teens in the average fiction series. I loved the daring premise of having this for a school play. So I loved the fact that I (in Game of Wands) did one of my favourite Shakespeares for a change. --this was written in 2015

After noticing the astounding lack of instances of Othello as a School Play in canon, Idlewild (a pretty recent example from this very decade, 2020s) being the only instance so far listed on TV Tropes,

  • School Play: All the major characters star together in the Idlewild production of Othello, which, despite the pretentious aspirations of many of the cast, has the typical issues with forgotten lines, bizarre and unconvincing performances, and costumes that don't quite fit the chosen antebellum setting.

then I recalled my Othello School Play in Game of Wands, my ASoIaF Hogwarts AU, and the result is a new gaiden for El semen de los ahorcados (Les Mis Hogwarts AU), in which an amateur production of Othello for Shakespeare Day the 23 of April (taking place in the leads' third year, so they're 13), performed at Hogwarts by the core members of AS-SORTED, goes completely haywire and turns into something very similar to other School Play episodes, most often anime (Cinderella in Fruits Basket, Journey to the West in Love Hina, Mac**th in Space in Jimmy Neutron)... no longer a serious adaptation, but one stuck with JoJo's references, Star Wars references, even a part where Iago (Montparnasse) and Othello (Bossuet/Lesgles) fight each other with quidditch bats, that is obviously a reference to Jamón, Jamón

Things started to fall apart when Cosette, who played Desdemona, caught the mumps and had to be quarantined in the Hospital Wing... at which point Montparnasse (who was already stealing rhe rehearsals as a flamboyant Iago Sissy Villain - think Zoisite, Fisheye, and Cytomander rolled into one!), suggested that Éponine (the producer/director) cast Enjolras as Desdemona, as a joke, but 'Ponine took it seriously (Enj with his fair skin, sapphire eyes, and golden hair that he kept long --until sixth year--, would make a perfect Desdemona, also this universe's Éponine being a yaoi fangirl and casting 'Parnasse as Iago for obvious reasons saw all the possibilities between Enj as Desdemona and the male cast!).

As a result of this, Grantaire wanted the part of Cassio to be able to kiss the new Desdemona, so he gave Courfeyrac some newt potion and had him say "if things are this way, I am a newt!" to turn poor Courf into a newt (whom Combeferre found and kept in a fishtank). This turns out to be the backstory for R himself becoming a newt this way in Book 1 (the one where Javert takes the helm and the house system becomes more or less a caste hierarchy). It also explains how Combeferre found out that the cure for the newt potion is a true love's kiss.

From these changes on, the play went completely off the rails, with everyone's butterbeer spiked with firewhisky in the drinking scene, Musichetta as Emilia wearing a very Leia-like fanservicey bikini, JoJo's references galore, the quidditch bat duel previously mentioned, and Combeferre as Ludovico finding a very familiar newt on the stage, kissing him, and a half-naked Courfeyrac in human form (no longer a newt) introducing himself as Mercutio, who survived and left Verona --the finale has him asking for Ludovico's hand and starting a threesome with Cassio and Ludovico (also, Desdemona is not quite dead, thanks to her stand Molitva --a stand that takes the form of Marija Serifovic in a suit!). In the final battle everyone turns out to have stands (aside from the male cast's lightsabers and the female cast's blasters), and these stands are different from patroni (according to StrixAlluka, you can have both a stand and a patronus; a stand is a personification of your willpower and personality, while a patronus is more like a spirit animal). The stands only crop up at the end of this gaiden, but this being a universe where everything except resurrecting the dead is possible, it is possible that these characters still had stands in the main saga, only that, being more experienced Hogwarts students (4th-7th year), they rely more on magic.

ENJOLTAIRE XMAS FIC (HOGWARTS AU)
