RENATE THE REDOUBTABLE

There is a live action version of The Singing Springing Lark, made in East Germany in 1982.
The story is set in the mid-nineteenth century, and the villainess/false heroine is one Contessa (Countess) Annunziata, played by stunning Brandenburg veteran Renate Blume:

Look down, look down, don't look her in the eye... look down, look down, that cup may make you die...!

The Contessa is dark because the true heroine, commoner Konstanze, is blond. Doesn't the Contessa remind me of Shakespeare's Dark Lady...? Though she is, to me, a dead ringer for the unfortunate Thekla von Wallenstein (fallen princess, traitor's daughter, broken belle, violent and painful death...)!

What Thekla would be like if she was born and raised in Victorian times...

The interior of Schloss Contessa is also Art Nouveau/Gaudi style, like I picture Katla's estate. She also appears to be wearing a kimono in this picture. Though I have a more flapper-kimono style outfit for my redhead Katla!
