THE SKY BLUE 50 SPECIAL VESPA
This AU is set in a world of a modern-day, like WW2-era (dieselpunk, think The Mummy or Indy Jones), Westeros occupied by still-alive Targaryen humanoid space aliens. In this continuity, the Valyrian Empire was an interstellar great power, and Aegon and his sisters came over from outer space, having got huge ships instead of dragons. Rhaegar is still alive and on the Iron Throne, happily married to Elia Martell, and with two half-alien children, a now twenty-something Rhaenys (heiress to the throne, following Dornish law) and Aegon. They are the only characters whose genders have not been flipped within the 'verse.
Everyone else is the opposite gender than in canon, and there are many Resistance factions trying to claim the Iron Throne for different aims, yet constantly at each other's throats...
Jamie Lannister, golden-haired and brilliant and graceful as can be, joined the Westerlands Resistance Army, where she holds the rank of colonel, to distance herself from a dysfunctional family and a lie that has snowballed into a debacle. Her widowed twin brother Sergei, a socialite, who loves her, is consternated. No sooner has his lady drunk spouse Roberta Baratheon been plunged into an ethylic coma, the one Sergei Baratheon-Lannister actually loves enlists in the military, and thus the socialite is consternated. Three incestuous children... and the eldest, Josephine, a monster in petticoats! Good luck Tyra, the Pixie, is there... she's self-indulgent, but clever after all!
With Lady General Tywina Lannister in charge of the whole Westerlands Resistance, her favourite daughter hopes that she may one day overthrow the regime. But Jamie Lannister is unexpectedly made a POW of another, rival Resistance faction... and thus, half her hopes are dashed to pieces.
Étienne of Tarth finds himself in a similar yet different predicament. A highly atypical hussar lieutenant at the service of the charming young Stormlands Resistance officer Renée Baratheon (his first love, yet sadly unrequited), the blond and freckled upstart is unjustly accused of murdering his commander, who falls dead, as if struck by lightning, into Étienne's arms. Leading the accusation is Renée's sister-in-law, aide-de-camp and more than friend, the equally beautiful Laura Tyrell. Once Renée, Laura, and Marius Tyrell (husband of the one and brother of the other) welcomed Étienne into their unit and into their circle, and thus the outcast found a place in both the army and high society. Now he is on the run, his innocence doubted by everyone: Étienne knows the real culprits are Renée's older sister, the more veteran and disciplined Dragonstone commander Ennis Baratheon, and her red priest confessor Lisander. But who would believe an upstart's account of the truth?
Colin Tully-Stark, a widowed diplomat whose male children were spirited away by the Lannister clan, holds the key to both their futures. It is Colin who urges Étienne to take the old sky blue 50 Special Vespa and sidecar with its matching helmet, both of which a kindly Renée once gave the Tarth lad as a present, and flee Storm's End on the now old-fashioned Vespa. And then to find Sandor and Aaron and bring them back to their loved ones. We know that Étienne of Tarth has always kept his word...
In exchange, he has to deliver a very valuable hostage to Tywina Lannister. After months of captivity, Jamie is now a shadow of the one she used to be. Tied up in the sidecar with Étienne by her side, both outcasts begin the adventure of their lifetimes...
And off they go, Jamie Lannister and Étienne of Tarth constantly insulting each other: they argue, they have tension, their chemistry is arguably the best (irony!), and Jamie even loses her right hand while defending Étienne from some henchmen, Dysdark immigrants Cloze, Shutte, and Locke, who nevertheless take them prisoner to their leader: Ruth Bolton, a gentlewoman of wealth and taste, cold as ice and governor of Harrenhal. There, Ruth's personal surgeon Kya, who was once accused of heresy, tends successfully to Jamie's amputation and offers her a new prosthetic hand, made of adamantium and equipped with some really cool gadgets, in exchange for her frenemy's freedom: a difficult decision that she is given time to think upon. Both Jamie and Étienne are soon well fed and surrounded by comforts. Is this a honey trap? Needless to say that Ruth Bolton is in league with Tywina Lannister, having got plans of her own for both prisoners... Plans that involve fancy attire, a truth serum, and a deathmatch with a human-sized stuffed panda bear that may not be as harmless as things appear...
In the meantime, Sergei and Josephine receive the Tyrells at the Red Keep, for the widowed Marius is now betrothed to the sociopath... More than just the decorations will be dark purple, crimson, mauve, lilac, burgundy, or any other shade in the conveniently purple-themed wedding ceremony and feast...
The end will feature Étienne and Lannister maidservant Polly Payne riding off into the sunset on the Vespa and its sidecar, respectively.
