PARTIS POUR L'ARMÉE - Beauties and Beasts podcast

The excverpt from the Beauty and Beasts podcast says this about the Beaumont version of the tale:

GREAT THAT THIS POD MENTIONED THE "SONT PARTIS POUR L'ARMÉE" DETAIL! ALSO, WHICH TRANSLATION DID SHE USE? (SOME VERSIONS ACROSS LANGUAGES DO TRANSLATE "SONT PARTIS POUR L'ARMÉE" NOT AS "HAVE JOINED THE ARMY," LIKE HERE, LITERALLY, WHILE OTHERS PARAPHRASE WITH THE MORE OMINOUS "HAVE GONE TO WAR..." -shivers- I recall the Anne Romby illustrations for Beaumont, set in the 30YW era, where the brothers upon attending the royal wedding, all three unscathed, arrive dressed as nobles/officers from the time period with plumed hats, rapiers, and lace collars and cuffs; two of them are dark twenty-somethings with moustaches and goatees, while the third is a blond stripling in mid-adolescence without facial hair - and this one, the youngest, is seen as a drummer with a little drum hanging about his neck - I don't recall if this was a literal Beaumont that merely said "sont partis pour l'armée" (as opposed to "sont partis en guerre"), but, due to the historical setting and maybe the drum for a single clue, was a miracle that they returned to the kingdom of France unscathed all three!)
