An Oca --- A goose-type game (replacing the goose with something else or stylizing it). Spiral-shaped, with the usual squares (bridges, dice, inn, well, dungeon, death, labyrinth). Roman or normal numbers? Normal numbers. My stylized goose woule be two concentric S curves and a D curve to represent my own initials. It would also do great as a drinking game:
The Oca (female goose) symbol, which is also a monogramme of SD. |
A rank game - the Game of Ranks (somewhat like a representation of seventeenth-century society) - with officers' and priests' ranks.
All the way from the top to the bottom of both ladders.
It would be either a set of playing cards, or an illustration of the hierarchy...
The highest ranking motifs would be Life (a colourful flower) and Death (a Jolly Roger).
Then would come a Royal and a Pope,
an Elector and a Cardinal,
a Duke/General and an Archbishop, and so on
to a Private and a Theology Student.
Allof them in seventeenth-century clothes. And all male except the Royal and a Prioress.
There is talk about making these figures expies of Westerosi characters.
Or of mirroring historical figures (Christina, Richelieu, Wallenstein...) and my own OC:s. I think I'll settle for the latter.
There will also be a third suite of the Game of Ranks featuring star signs arranged according to season, cardinal direction, and element, to flesh out the cosmos, to put the characters into perspective.
Each sign would be represented by its stylized symbol and evocations of its element and season (Aries would, for instance, be a two-leaf sprout in a background of sparks and wildflowers, at sunrise). All the way from Aries to Pisces, from early spring to late winter, and full circle.
The coda of the Game of Ranks would be, of course, a dance of death, in which black-clad reapers take each one a person of a rank up to dance, under the watchful eye of the Lord depicted as a zodiac eye with the Flower of Life for a pupil.
A Life of Gustavus Adolphus as a Zodiacal Auca
The auca would be surmounted by each of the symbols mentioned before and stretch from Sagittarius (birth at Nyköpingshus) to Scorpio (death at Lützen). At the top, a star sign. At the bottom, a few verses. In the middle, an incident from the Life of Gustavus Adolphus:
Late Autumn - Sagittarius - he is born
Early Winter - Capricorn - he is a child, his father usurps the throne
Midwinter - Aquarius - he is a youth, his father is suffering from remorse and looking up to him
Late Winter - Pisces - his father dies, he is crowned, with Oxenstierna by his side
Early Spring - Aries - his baptism of fire in Polish Latvia
Mid-Spring - Taurus - he receives the portrait of Prussian princess Eleanor, and chooses it above those of other intended brides
Late Spring - Gemini - meets Eleanor and her mother Anne. Courtship
Early Summer - Cancer - he marries Eleanor
Midsummer - Leo - Christina is born
Late Summer - Virgo - he defeats Tilly at Breitenfeld
Early Autumn - Libra - he marches into Bavaria, as Tilly dies in Ingolstadt and Wallenstein rises to power
Mid-Autumn - Scorpio - his lifeless form is found after the Battle of Lützen
